Abstract :

Mettāis one of the boundless states (appamaññā) or divine abiding (brahmavihāra) which is a common usage in Buddhism. The nature of friendliness, wetness (sensibility)and adherence, is termedmettā; in essenceit is “sineha” or “sneha” (friendship) which has the same rendering. It is synonymous with adosa (non-hatred or good-well).
