Abstract :

Mulk Raj Anand was born in 1905 in Peshawar. He is a pioneer of Indian writing in English. His novels Coolie and Untouchable made every reader think about India's social ills that were propagated in the name of religion and tradition. These and other early novels and short stories brought into sharp focus the contradictions within colonized Indian society. His writings revealed that there existed layers of colonialism within Indian society.
