AURANGABAD: After almost a year the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) has declared its first merit list of PhD students.
The university held the PhD Entrance Examination (PET-2) in December 2012, while the results were declared in February 2013. However, due to technical and other administrative hurdles, declaration of the merit list was delayed.
The university administration has announced a list of around 14 subjects namely, mathematics, physics, statistics, bio-technology, geology, mass communication and journalism, microbiology, sociology, zoology, library and information science, geography, environmental science, home science and botany.
Around 3,000 students had cleared the PET which is organised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) after which the screening process commenced in September last year. The applications of students who cleared the PET were screened by the Research Recommendation Committee (RRC), a five-member panel.
Director of the Board of Colleges and University Development, S P Zambare, said that the list of other subjects would also be declared soon. "Though list of vacancies and number of field posts have been declared, students will have to make necessary changes in their synopsis as recommended by the RRC," he said.
Zambare said that it has also been found that some guides have given consent to students more than their actual intake capacity. Such students have been informed and a revised list would be made.
Student activists demanded that the merit list of other subjects be declared by Tuesday. "The university should not delay the process further. Also, the list of guides should be declared," said Rahul Tayde, city president of Nationalist Students Congress (NSC).
Tayde said that a stipend for research students should also be provided by the university. "Dates of conduction of PET-3 should also be declared soon to allow students to prepare accordingly," he added.
The university earlier this month had also announced to conduct PET-3 in the month of March. Zambare said that the date would be fixed after confirming that no other examination falls on that particular day. He said that requests to allow stipend to the state have been pursued for the last four years, however, no positive outcome has been achieved for the same. |
