Abstract :

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the level of residents' loyalty and residents' attitudes toward tourism in Karaikudi, a rural tourism spot in the state of T amilnadu. In addition, this study investigated whether age groups and the people vary with the years of residency had different attitudes towar d tourism development. The self administered instrument was used and the responses were collected from 200 stakeholders. Afactor analysis of 26 attitude items reveals a thr eedimensional factor solution. The younger generation people were inclined to perceive more benefits of tourism than the older people. The people who are residing ther e for more than 20 years tended to have a stronger view of the negative impacts caused as a result of tourism development. The findings could be helpful to government and marketers inter ested in positioning their rural tourism destination.
