Abstract :

The effects of vermicompost in pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of vermicompost produced from water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and the growth along with crop productivity of chilli (Capsicum annum L.). The experiments were conducted for a duration of 120 days by giving various treatments including a concurrent control of T3 with soil only, T1 containing vermicompost produced from 50% water hyacinth added by 50% cow-dung proportion whereas T2 group containing treated 100% water hyacinth and 10% decomposed culture converted to the vermicompost working with Eudrilus eugeniae earthworm species. The vermicompost was rich in nutrients and showed positive effect on morphological and growth characteristics of Capsicum annum. The results showed that the application of vermicompost in pot experiment studies has enhanced significantly the number of leaves and its branches along with height and also the number of fruits in chilli plants.
